I enjoyed this event, but can’t say it’s one I’ll be rushing back to attend again. Part of what made it enjoyable was attending with a large group from my community, I’m not sure it would have been so good to attend alone. There are lots of different things offered (eg. Different dance styles like 2 step and burlesque), but I think this event is trying to do too many different things and needs to pull back options to allow for better execution and organisation. Pros - Venue right in the heart of Edinburgh, meaning lots of accommodation, food and grocery options to suit all budgets. Plus easy to sightsee. - Friendly local and visiting dancers, no levelled wristbands and people social danced across all levels. - There were workshops running during the competition, giving something for people who don’t compete to do. - “Swing Rez on the cheap” pass including hostel accommodation sharing with other dancers - very affordable. - Open Decks DJ slots giving opportunities to emerging DJs - Multiple social floors running with different music including themed sets Cons - Temperature was extremely varied between rooms, some were way too hot and others way too cold. - Competitions and shows seemed disorganised and did not run to schedule. Pro J&J started an hour late. - Room used for J&Js was way too small and cramped during the competitions. The larger but narrower room used for Strictly was better to dance in but harder for judges. - Floor was very sticky at times, and parts were easy to get caught on the joins (the suede on my shoes ended up flapping off at the toe). - The three rooms were very spread out, so it was hard to move between them during social and the hallways became very crowded during busy moments like comps and pro show. - Mostly open levelled workshops, and no opportunity to audition for Adv pointed workshops

I had a great time at Swing Resolution! I feel the people were very open. Also Scotland and Edinburgh were very nice. People are very friendly and most places were good dealing with allergies. Workshops were nicely varying: some open to all levels, some for specific J&J level and some completely other dance styles to try out. Also during competitions there were open workshops, so if you're not into competing or you want to still do workshops shortly before/after, this was possible. On the social dance floor, there were unfortunately significantly less leaders then follows. However, everybody was open to dance with anyone. Mixing of 'levels' was also encouraged by the organizers. There were two and sometimes even three dance floors to choose from. However, on Sunday evening one of the two dance floors was Two Step style, since they had given a workshop in this. This meant that the other dance floor was the only WCS floor and was pretty busy. Overall I enjoyed both the event and Edinburgh very much and I am planning to go back!

Very nice event, but unfortunately with an overcrowded dancefloor in the evening. You were more occupied with preventing hitting other dancers than having the ability to to truly dance. If this could be solved, it would be on my yearly "to-go" list.
